Rich Gold's The Plenitude 

 

The Plenitude was published with an unorthodox format, cartoons, and distribution, as a PDF on memory sticks given away at his wake. A few years later it became a stuffier looking physical book, but it still isn't known widely. This was 12 years ago, but since Rich realized that he was at least 10 years ahead of time with his best ideas, we are just getting ready for him. Two of his 'hats' were Art and Science. I hope to point at a few highlights and get you to soak in the rest.

Raised by artists, Donald Day studied mathematics and art at Reed College. He has apprenticed with filmmaker Scott Bartlett, washed bottles for viruses at Cold Spring Harbor, done precision billboard alteration, collaborated with Dan Sandin, and worked on implementation with Bill Hearn and Bill Etra for mostly analog video processors. He began teaching at CCA(C) in 1976, has performed with the League of Automatic Music Composers, written about digital typography, and worked for DIck Shoup’s Aurora Systems, successor to the first computer-paint program. He has also collaborated with Milton Komisar and Steve Wilson. He continues to work at RGB Spectrum.
