Extending from CCA’s 2013 National Science Foundation grant, Exploring Science in the Studio, the 2015 AICAD Symposium was divided into a series of streams that focus on particular aspects of art and science education: Exploring Science in the Classroom, Exploring Science in the Lab, Exploring Science in the Field, Exploring Science in the Environment.

 

Panels brought together students, faculty, and other professionals for thematic discussions, while case studies highlighted singular projects and programs being implemented by presenters. Field trips offered participants opportunities to connect with CCA’s partner institutions in the Bay Area, including the Exploratorium, California Academy of Sciences, and Autodesk Pier 9 Workshop. Workshops led by visiting artists and academics let participants participate in collaborative design sprints, and study the natural world around them.

 

The 2015 AICAD Symposium also included a Poster Session as well as exhibitions of student and faculty work. A multifaceted performance paired professional dancers and musicians with undergraduate students studying the effect of the drought on California.

 

The 2015 AICAD Symposium was intentionally designed to provide participants with engaging and immersive experiences in art, design, and science education.
