Airylight: Visualizing the Invisible
AiryLight is a kinetic light fixture that gathers real-time air quality and visualizes it by projecting changing patterns onto the ceiling. AiryLight uses current technology and design to bring information about the outdoor environment indoors. AiryLight is designed with three goals. One: Interpret environmental data into an experience that intrigues us over time. Two: Situate AiryLight within a domestic and daily environment. Three: AiryLight is an experiment in using calm technology to create a spectacle that can be both informative and contemplative.

Annelie Berner is a data artist and technologist currently researching at the Copenhagen Institute of Interaction Design. Her work is concerned with aesthetic, tangible representations of data and experimental interfaces for data.
Berner’s work has won awards in the Core77 Design Awards and the Data Perceptualization Competition and is part of the permanent collection at the Georgia Museum of Art. She has been featured in Visualising Data, Dwell, and Make magazine. She was a member of the inaugural class of NEWINC, an associate research scholar at the Spatial Information Design Lab, and an adjunct assistant professor at Columbia University’s School of Architecture. Berner studied Government and Visual and Environmental Studies at Harvard University and is a graduate of New York University’s Interactive Telecommunications Program (ITP).
