Design Research: Landforming and the Geologic Turn

Cathryn Dwyre holds a Master of Landscape Architecture degree from the University of Pennsylvania and is a visiting associate professor at Pratt Institute’s School of Architecture, teaching undergraduate thesis and history/theory seminars on architecture and landscape. She is co-editor of an issue of PAJ: A Journal of Performance and Art, published by MIT Press (2015) and a fellow of the MacDowell Colony (2013). Prior to joining the faculty at Pratt, she was managing editor of ViaBooks, producing a volume from MIT Press entitled Dirt (2011). Dwyre is also co-principal of pneumastudio, an experimental design practice that brings together the fields of architecture and landscape architecture as a means of reconsidering the built environment in a time of environmental crisis. Pneumastudio has exhibited at the Design Museum in Barcelona and New York University’s Gallatin School. Recent publications featuring the group’s work include Global Design (Prestel) and Bracket 2: Goes Soft (Actar).
