
Guerilla Science: Mixing Science with Art, Music and Play
How can the storytelling power of science be best combined with art & design? This presentation examines the Guerilla Science model of combing science with art, music and play to create live events and installations in an unusual places.
Guerilla Science creates learning opportunities for people with little affinity for science, in ways that are appropriate for their cultural identity. From muddy music festival fields to national art galleries, high-end department stores to derelict hospitals and disused power stations, Guerilla Science has pioneered a genuinely innovative model for communicating and celebrating science in places and spaces where science and scientists are least expected.
Over the past 7 years, the organization has engaged over fifty-thousand people through live event formats, facilitated hundreds of collaborations between artists and scientists, and created dozens of bespoke formats that advance informal science learning. Supporters, partners and clients include the Wellcome Trust, Hendricks Gin, Glastonbury Music festival, the Smithsonian, and the National Portrait Gallery.

Mark Rosin is the cofounder and director of Guerilla Science, an international creative consultancy and science engagement organization, produces creative, challenging, and cutting-edge science-inspired live events. Their productions range from interactive installations and large-scale theatrics at music festivals to experimental dining events and pop-up shops that weave science into rich and multisensory narrative experiences.
Rosin’s teaching and research activities focus on how to communicate science using art and design and computational methods for fusion energy. He has a PhD in mathematics from the University of Cambridge and postdoctoral experience at UCLA and the NSF’s Institute for Pure and Applied Math.
He has produced dozens of high-impact events at music festivals and other unusual places for science learning.
