The MUSE project expanded from an initial stand-alone cart to a more abundant and accessible system that incorporates carts, trays, kits, and soft storage (totes, backpacks) into a larger storage and display unit, housed in the CCA Libraries. This developed from the multifaceted needs of CCA's science and studio faculty for the acquired science materials and equipment, namely storage, access, and display. Several dichotomies were also identified in the intended materials (tiny/large, cheap/valuable, fragile/durable, light/heavy, movable/stationary, field use/classroom use) which necessitated a varied and creative approach to designing the MUSE to fulfill the multiple roles and needs and to aid faculty and students access and usage.
